Crocodiles!

Well, I haven't posted anything because nothing has had me exited in a while. Crocodiles changed this. MOKB Just posted three tracks from their upcoming debut and I'm thoroughly in love. Oddly enough, it reminds me of Echo and the Bunnymen's Crocodiles quite a bit. Seriously, though, I'm going to stop writing and listen to these tracks again.

Crocodiles - I Wanna Kill
Crocodiles - Summer of Hate
Crocodiles - Neon Jesus

Passion, not Pungee!

Passion Pit has released the first single from the upcoming(may 24th on this side of the pond) full length release Manners. The song is called The Reeling and it features the childrens choir video shoot I posted a while ago. while it's not on par with Sleepyhead, It's still a pretty solid effort. Bombastic, colorful, and energetic nail it pretty well.

Other Animals

Other Animals are some pretty different animals! They've got their self titled EP up for free here. It's pretty fine atmospheric rock material.

Buke and Gass

I was listening through the Oct '08 Indie Rock playlist and stumbled across Buke and Gass. they are quite simply amazing. You'd never guess they're a duo from the sound, but they indeed are. Two acoustic guitars and a bass drum with a tambourine attached to it never sounded so complete. They hail from brooklyn (yet another band that makes me wish I was out east) so if you're in the area, check 'em out.

I bought their EP +/- today, so it should be here soon. review to follow!

Buke and Gass - Sleep Gets Your Ghost

Respekt!

Regina Spektor, the quirky Russian singing beauty, has a new album 'Far' in the works according to this Pitchfork interview. 4 big names share production duties: David Kahne (Regina's Begin to Hope) , Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Rilo Kiley), Garret ‘Jacknife’ Lee (Snow Patrol, REM, U2) and Jeff Lynne (ELo frontman, Tom Petty), so it's up in the air what the final product will sound like. Hopefully they haven't tamed her, but I don't really know if that's possible. I'm trying to dig up a leaked copy so I can hype this more, but I've got nothing right now. The official release date has not been set, but 'sometime in June' is the hubbub.

Azeda Booth free dl EP

Azeda Booth released a free EP Tubtrek of 4 remixes and 4 new tracks on March Second.

[edit] I got a chance to listen to this yesterday after a somewhat lengthy DL time, but it was worth the wait. As you might've figured out, this is one of my favourite bands right now so I'm a bit biased.

Tubtrek is a fair bit less polished than In Flesh Tones. The beats are more jagged, the vocals less inhumanly perfect. Hell, there is even a song that you can tell the gender of the vocals!

So, in short... if you liked In Flesh Tones, download this.

Carni!

Sorry for the lack of posts these last few days. It's winter carnival time here in Houghton, so I'm pretty busy with the whole shenanigans thing. Normal service will resume Monday.

Metric, not SAE.

The new Metric single, Help! I'm Alive, rocks. I can't find a streaming MP3, you you'll just have to head over to their myspace, but it is totally worth it. (I'm really late on this one, but hey! better late than never, right?)

The album this track is from is due out April 14th.

The List

Well, Here's the list. I'm going to start filling it in from the bottom!

[Editorial Disclaimer:
The order of this list doesn't exactly reflect my opinions very well, but if I were to reorder it, I don't think it would do any better. Some of the albums down towards the bottom simply didn't get enough play time for me to fall in love and/or dissect them and likely should be placed higher. You may also notice the absence of Fleet Foxes, which I can understand, but I could never get into the album. It's good stuff, but it never caught me. And don't even get me started on coldplay.]

Flashdance Ass Pants' favourites of '08

Over the past few weeks, I've been trying to play catch-up with all of the albums I missed over the past year so I can do a proper year end review. Some people may be tired already of the year-end chart orgy that takes place every year, but I find that to get a clear picture of the year, you need to wait a few weeks after it's over. Due to the sheer number of albums I neglected over this past year, I've decided to release my list, starting from the bottom, 5 albums at a time so I have ample time to listen to each record and write a review. I plan on doing a top 50 or 100 songs of the year at some point in the future, too. I will try to get a new batch of 5 up every day, but I'm not going to make any promises.

Welcome!

Congratulations! You've found the Flashdance Ass Pants Musical Review! Let me take a moment to introduce this blog. Flashdance Ass pants finds its home in sunny Houghton, MI, A nice place to live...

There is currently 3 feet of snow on the porch and it's 24f outside with a 40% chance of measurable snowfall.

Hopefully you will find some ahead-of-the-curve musical selections here. If I fail in that respect, you'll at least find a rehash of the top music blogs filtered through and sprinkled with a little special sauce.

Enjoy!
